About Michael Brown/Club Shop
The story of Club Shop is basically about a hobby that became a vocation. Michael Brown started tinkering with his own clubs in the mid 1980’s. From there he attended golf club making schools offered by Golf Works and Golf Smith. Mike has been an active member of several professional organizations including the Golf Club Repairmen’s Association, Professional Clubmakers’ Society, Golf Clubmakers Association, and most recently the International Clubmakers Guild. He is certified as an Advanced Professional “Class A” Club Maker, covering custom club building, fitting, repairing and refinishing. Michael Brown was a member of a select group of club makers who created and taught courses in club making and repair and were instrumental in helping to develop written and practical exams for those in the club making industry.
Mike spent several years working with the physically challenged, building and adapting equipment to get them back on the golf course. His efforts have been documented in a book titled The Forgotten Foursome, published in 1996 by the Professional Clubmakers Society. Michael Brown has also served as a volunteer coach for the local Special Olympic golfers and as a volunteer in the Special Olympic Golf Tournament hosted by The Golf Course at Yale.
